Poglins are strengthened in battle by various skills. They fall into two categories: passive and active.
Passive skills trigger immediately after flipping over, whereas active skills trigger after all of the effects in the arena are applied. Each active skill can only trigger once per battle; if a clash is inconclusive, the Poglin returns to the Bench without its active skill. Some rare Poglins may have a dual skill–that is, an active skill that is made of two different skills. In this case, only one of the two active skills in the dual skill can trigger.
While some Poglins may hatch with an active skill, most have to learn one; Poglins can learn only one active skill, from up to two possible options. By contrast, a Poglin with a passive skill will always learn it when it reaches the proper level. Note that some passive skills are actually penalties intended to compensate for a Poglin’s extraordinary strength.
Here is a sampling of skill types:
Active
Boost: Boosts CP against Poglins of a certain Element, Tribe, or Tier
Counter: Counters the skill of the opposing Poglin before it can take effect
Protect: Protects the Poglin if it is about to lose the clash
Reveal: Reveals a Poglin on the opposing Bench
Field: Increases the CP of all Poglins on the field of a certain Element, Tribe, or Tier
Trap: Decreases the CP of the next opposing Poglin
Aura: Increases the CP of the next Poglin played
Clear: Clears all Trap and Aura effects
Underdog: Increases CP for each crown the opponent is ahead by
Passive
Flying: Ignores the effects of Traps
Cursed: Ignores the effects of Auras
Weakness: Decreases CP against Poglins of a certain Element, Tribe, or Tier
Priority: Clashes immediately when this Poglin has higher CP
